I have the honour to acknowledge your lotter
of the 26th. instant stating that His Excellency declines to grant my application. I think that the facts of my case may not have been clearly understood by His Excellency and I therefore venture to ask for a reconsideration of the matter. The points
on which I base my application are as follows:-
(1).
I have always been put in charge during Mr.
Recs's absence whether on ordinary leave or sick leave because
you have considered that I was the Officer best fitted in every way to take charge and I am sure that I have given satisfaction
when in that position.
(2).
I was placed on the permanent staff on 30th.
June, 1906, and then became senior to Mr. Grey who was not
transferred to the permanent staff until more than two years
later. He was at the same time placed on his maximum salary and
thus, apparently, became my senior.
(3).
If Mr. Rees should relinquish the appoint-
-ment at any time from any cause, it is reasonable for me to assume, from past experience, that my claim to the post would be stronger than Mr. Grey's and a difficulty might arise if I
am apparently junior to him.
I trust that I have made ry position clear
this time. I am qualified to act as Prinéipal Land Surveyor, have so acted whilst Mr. Grey was in the Colony and should still be acting now if Mr. Grey were in the Colony.
The question of salary is not the main
point at issue but I fail to see how in common fairness I can
be expected to do the responsible work whilst junior to another
Officer.
